Update: ACCRUAL OF COMPENSATING LEAVE BY EMPLOYEES IN THE CORRECTIONAL BARGAINING UNIT
During the recent OPSEU collective agreement negotiations with the Correctional Bargaining Unit, the employer provided notice that employees will no longer be able to receive compensating leave in lieu of pay for overtime.As a result, you are now advised that all hours of compensating leave banked by employees in the correctional bargaining unit, during the 2008 calendar year and all compensating leave banked from January 1, 2009 up to March 31, 2009 will be paid out concurrently at the rate it was earned.Approvals for the use of compensating leave that there given prior to the date of this memo will be honoured as the only exception.Your assistance in the implementation of this direction is appreciated and should you have any questions about this change, please contact your Human Resources Advisor.

Had this memo been included in the contract proposal I'm sure the vote would have been an outstanding NO. I have never worked OT for pay and never will. I will not answer the phone to be ordered in and will only work if I am orderded to stay for a shift extension. I only used 4 sick days last year and they were all legit, but I can see myself using more if I can't get the time off and am ordered to work OT... I will not act as an OM until this is changed maybe when the managers can't get time off this summer they will put the pressure on. I can see lots of institutions being under lockdown because they are short staffed as a result of this.
